Surya Gunawan was born in the suburbs of Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Since middle school, he has been interested in putting his thoughts onto paper, which became his meditation during the busyness of daily activities.

Before becoming an illustrator, he spent four years working as a therapist for children with special needs. He then began actively contributing illustrations on various online platforms and eventually collaborated with writers from around the world to illustrate various children’s storybooks. Currently, he is also developing his ideas through paintings that will be marketed on several platforms.

He believes that the world of children is the most important aspect of human civilization because it is where freedom of thought and imagination begin, leading to many great interests and discoveries over time.
